The 2001 F1 season was extraordinary for Ferrari with 9 wins, 11 pole positions and 19 placings, with 15 of those podium positions. Ferrari finished the Championship with a splendid victory at Suzuka and a total of 179 points in the Constructors' and 123 points in the Drivers' World Championships.

The F2001, the car used in that season as well as some early races in 2002, was highly successful with a total of 10 wins, 13 pole positions, 4 fastest laps and 197 points in its career. The design philosophy behind this model was completely new and the resulting single-seater differed from the F1-2000 in many ways: the aerodynamics had to be redesigned and the F2001 sported a lower nose, a higher front wing and longer flanks. Moreover, the engine was load-bearing and mounted longitudinally, as was the titanium gearbox.

Thanks to this absolutely exceptional vehicle, Schumacher and Ferrari won the Drivers’ and Constructors’ title three months before the end of the season in a magnificent one-two at the Hungaroring (with Schumacher first and Barrichello second).
